In 1996, founder Peter Liegl decided to take some assets from Cobra Industries to form his own company with the intent of making a higher quality of recreational vehicle to revolutionize the industry. Thus, Forest River was born, and the company’s initial offerings included travel trailers, tent campers and park models. Following the swift success of these early releases, Forest River expanded into motorhomes, and even the marine world, with their first pontoons.

Forest River managed to grow quickly and acquire additional businesses like Glaval Bus and US Cargo. When the company itself was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in 2005, they became a part of the world’s largest holding company and had increased access to resources to make their campers and trailers the best of the best.
